The gory details
Tastic.org is the personal site of multidisciplined web developer Anson Schall. Originally an aspiring programmer, his slavish addiction to the Internet since the mid-nineties veered his focus to the web. Half programmer, half designer, he now seeks to create usable and aesthetically pleasing web sites.
During the few hours in the day that he’s not catching the rays of a computer display, he can be found entertaining his two daughters, Olivia and Elsa, or simply enjoying life with his beautiful wife, Brandi.
Tastic?
The idea for the domain name was ripped off from a recurring Late Night sketch where Brian Stack plays a contemptibly smug audience member. After Conan announces the guests for the next show, Stack praises them, generally using made-up words ending with “tastic”, then derides the rest of the show — especially Conan’s monologue — in like manner. My favorite invented word so far is “horribtastic”.
Only as good as his tools
This site, along with most of the stuff Anson’s had a hand in, was coded in Vim on a Mac. Anson believes web standards are important, and prefers working on sites that adhere to them. This site is semantically marked up in XHTML Strict, and uses valid CSS for positioning and its (admittedly little) style.
Panic’s Transmit moves Anson’s files to and fro, Photoshop handles any pixel wrangling, and Firebug provides him with an ace debugger.
